As usual we like to do UNUSUAL labels: UNUSUAL label design and print for Oriachovitza winery

Oriachovitza, a family-owned winery with a rich legacy in Bulgarian winemaking, has introduced its groundbreaking new brand: UNUSUAL. Located near Stara Zagora and originally built in 1935 by an Austrian architect, the winery is known for blending tradition with modern innovation. The UNUSUAL brand represents this ethos, celebrating premium wines crafted with non-traditional methods that challenge conventions and redefine excellence.

Design concept:

The UNUSUAL label presented an exciting creative challenge for the Labelmaker: how to visually capture the innovative techniques behind the wines. The wines, such as Aligote and Syrah & Viognier, are aged in Wine Globe vessels—a cutting-edge approach that is rare in the wine industry. The design needed to reflect this modernity while maintaining a premium and sophisticated look.

At the heart of the design is the bold UNUSUAL logo. Featuring all-caps lettering, the “U” and “N” cleverly resemble wine bottle silhouettes. The logo is accentuated with high-build raised varnish for a tactile, refined feel. The label’s vibrant hotfoil-stamped caps create a striking interplay of color and form, enhancing the brand’s contemporary appeal.

Production challenges and printing excellence:

The UNUSUAL label required meticulous precision in crafting its custom die-cut design, which features rectangular openings and embossings that add depth and intrigue. The seamless integration of front and back labels into a single wraparound piece was another technical achievement, ensuring a sleek, uninterrupted aesthetic.

Paired with a solid burgundy-style bottle and a silver capsule, the packaging exudes sophistication while reinforcing the brand’s innovative character.
