Legacy 1908: When a label carries more than a name
A story of identity, tradition, and design with purpose.
Some wine labels are meant to impress. This one was meant to mean something.
Legacy 1908 isn’t just a name. It’s a tribute to leadership, belonging, and the legacy of those who shape the world quietly, with intention. Created for the alumni of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, this wine project carries the weight of more than a century of history, achievement, and community.
The goal? To build a label that felt personal but shared. Exclusive, yet universal. A design that alumni could not only hold but connect to.
A journey that crosses continents:
The idea was born in the U.S., crafted in the vineyards of Italy, designed by our long-time creative partner The Labelmaker, and brought to life in Bulgaria by our team at Dagaprint. That journey alone says a lot — it’s global, collaborative, and rooted in purpose.
And so is the label.
Design that reflects identity:
The bottle is classic and grounded: a tall, heavyweight Bordeaux, chosen for its timeless silhouette. But the label is where the storytelling unfolds.
- At the top, “Legacy 1908” is embossed in deep gold foil – bold, intentional, and full of presence.
- In the center: a lantern hanging beneath an arch. Not just any lantern, but the one that hangs at Kellogg’s gates — the one students pass on their first and last day. A symbol of entering and emerging. Of light and growth.
- Surrounding it, floral patterns echo the real stone carvings of the university’s architecture, finished in roof embossing and shimmering gold foil.
Even the motto wraps you in meaning.
Modestus Ego, Grandis Impetus — “Small Ego, Big Impact” — curved around the emblem like a quiet promise. Beneath it, MCMVIII grounds the label in history.
Further down, the wine’s name “Impatto” — Italian for “impact” — is written in an elegant, slightly calligraphic script. Embossed, of course. Because every word deserves to be felt, not just read.
Each bottle is individually numbered, a subtle but powerful nod to the unique path of each alumnus.
Craftsmanship you can feel:
We used soft black paper with a rich tactile finish the kind that signals intention from the first touch. And like the story, every detail is layered:
- Round embossing and micro-embossing give the lantern depth and dimensionality
- The label is enclosed in an elegant embossed frame
- A matte gold capsule contrasts with high-gloss foil branding — a final flourish that completes the experience
And behind every millimeter of precision is our team at Dagaprint, handling the complexity with care — from foil placement and emboss registration to layering and finish.
